We don’t mean to be hard on General Hospital heroine Sam — after all, it’s not every day your dead husband, who you thought you were already married to, shows up — but it’s been a year!
And yet Sam (Kelly Monaco) doesn’t seem to have any more clarity than she did when the real Jason rescued her from that water.
Well, sure, at least she seems to know she wants Jason (Steve Burton) but she continues to keep him at arm’s length. But let’s examine that choice– Jason, the man she’s loved for most of her adult life.
Sam seems ready to jump right into another relationship, even if she says she wants to take things slowly. This raises the question– what has changed?
Didn’t she almost lose her mind with Drew (Billy Miller), who she thought was Jason at the time, working for Sonny (Maurice Benard)? He was willing to pull away and prioritize his family over Sonny’s unending needs.
So, is Sam now perfectly fine with Jason being back in bed with the mob king and queen of Port Charles? Sam had made so much progress breaking away from being a Sonny apologist and wanting to be a responsible mother, determined to keep her children safe.
Perhaps she trusts RealJason to keep them safe no matter what and something inside made her think that DrewJason wasn’t up for the job.
But how will Drew feel if Sam and Jason make their union official and he brings danger into Scout’s life as her new stepdad?
Could that possibly be what makes him more amenable to Margaux’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) request that he help her take down Sonny (and probably Jason too)?
Granted Drew probably isn’t thinking clearly about Sam and Jason since he has Oscar and his health to worry about. But one day he will… and it’s a safe bet that he’ll be wondering why it’s suddenly okay for Sam to be with a man who lives such a dangerous life.
As for Sam and Jason, if she’s going to throw caution to the wind and reunite with Sonny’s mob enforcer, what the heck is taking so long? She wants to take it slow? It’s been a year! The man you love is right in front of you, Sam: Didn’t his “death” teach you not to waste precious time?
