Why General Hospital Should Not Mess With Trina’s Paternity

The writing seems to be on the General Hospital wall for a big, consequential paternity reveal regarding Trina Robinson and Curtis Ashford, but if this happens, it would be a major mistake.

General Hospital Set Up Possibilities

GH fans had already fallen in love with Josslyn Jacks’s (Eden McCoy) best friend, Trina Robinson (then played by Sydney Mikayla, now Tabyana Ali) when we got the happy news that she was related to a character with ties to Port Charles.

Marcus Taggert (Réal Andrews), Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) long-ago foil within the Port Charles Police Department, had a daughter during his years away from the show, and that daughter was now BFFs with Sonny’s (then) stepdaughter. It was the perfect setup to reintroduce Taggert and tie Trina to the canvas even more.

However, there were also hints here and there on General Hospital every few months that Trina’s mom, Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr), had been lying to her daughter and ex for years. She had an affair with Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) while married to Taggert, meaning Curtis could be Trina’s dad.

GH Now Needs To Leave Well Enough Alone

Fans were relieved when the plan to reveal Curtis as Trina’s dad was dropped when it took years to even bring up the possibility again, but now it looks like the show is going backward, and that’s exactly what will happen.

It’s also what should not happen. We have watched Trina and Taggert’s bond over the last few years, and it only gets stronger. Trina was devastated when he faked his own death, overjoyed to find out he was alive and leaned on him through her trial ordeal. There is no reason to mess with this wonderful father-daughter relationship just to play out a simple and obvious soap trope nobody wants to see in this situation.

When GH tried this with Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard), it didn’t work, and the paternity reveal was quickly reversed. Let’s hope the soap has learned its lesson this time.
