It may seem General Hospital stars were just at the Daytime Emmys — because they were. The awards were held in December last year but the folks at the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences are gearing up to hand out honors to the best and brightest in soap operas in June at the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Which GH stars might make this year’s ballot?
And the Emmy Goes To…
GH has some of the finest acting on TV. Soap Hub honored numerous performances on the show last year with our Performer of the Week feature. While nobody can predict with 100% accuracy who’ll get a nod this year, Soap Hub is looking back at some of the finest work done on GH in 2023, which may indicate who’ll be going for the gold this June when the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are broadcast on CBS.
Outstanding Lead Actress: GH has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to lead actresses. The women who were our Performers of the Week for GH last year included Genie Francis (Laura), Maura West (Ava), Cynthia Watros (Nina), and Finola Hughes (Anna).
Outstanding Lead Actor or Outstanding Supporting Actor: Sure, soaps are primarily a women’s medium but there are plenty of great actors on daytime drama, too. Soap Hub pointed out the terrific work done last year by Maurice Benard (Sonny), Jon Lindstrom (Kevin; ex-Ryan), and James Patrick Stuart (Valentin).
Outstanding Supporting Actress: This is another category in which GH shines. Other GH actresses we bestowed Performer of the Week honors on include Jane Elliot (Tracy), Lisa LoCicero (Olivia), Lynn Herring (Lucy), Rebecca Herbst (Liz), and Brook Kerr (Portia).
Outstanding Guest Actor: The category may have been originally created to honor prime time stars who come to pay short visits to daytime as past winners and nominees include Donna Mills (ex-Madeline, GH; Abby, Knots Landing) and Celeste Holm (ex-Lydia Woodhouse, Loving). However, daytime staples who appear with less frequency are also eligible for this category. Réal Andrews broke our hearts as Taggert learned he wasn’t Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) father. Also, Adam Huss delivered as Nikolas.
Who do you think should be nominated for a Daytime Emmy from General Hospital this year? Sound off in the comments below. The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are set to air on Friday, June 7 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on CBS.
