Sonny Corinthos and Carly Spencer have run the gamut on General Hospital. They’ve hated each other, they’ve loved each other, they’ve been co-parents, they’ve been adversaries, they’ve had passionate sex and they’ve had hate sex. Which version of this couple showcases them at their best?
Carly and Sonny Corinthos: Loath of Life
In the beginning, Carly (Laura Wright) loved Jason (Steve Burton). Sonny (Maurice Benard) didn’t think Carly was good enough for Jason. So, he slept with her, to prove it to Jason. Sonny made his point. But, Carly ended up pregnant. So, Sonny forced her to marry him. They fought, they screamed, they bickered, and they bantered. Those were the good old days.
You’ve Got a Friend
Sonny and Carly have broken up multiple times. But they’ve always had their children in common. Michael (Chad Duell), whom Sonny appropriated from AJ, Morgan, Avery, whom Carly appropriated from Ava (Maura West), and Donna. For the kids’ sake, they try to be civil in public. Friendly, even. Which seems to be the safest position for them to take.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
For the majority of fans, Carly and Sonny work best when they form a united front. And not just for the kids’ sake, but for their own. Sonny and Carly work best when they are in love, when they see the best in each other, rather than the worst, and when they’re both rowing in the same direction, pursuing the same goals, and supporting each other.
Even Jason stepped aside when Sonny returned from the dead. He knew they belonged together, even when the two of them didn’t. Now that Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) crime of reporting a crime has been exposed for the even worse crime that it is, Sonny can dump his latest wife, and return to the only woman who mattered to him.
