She’s is one tough cookie and won’t let anything like a hook weaken her resolve for justice!

You can’t just lie around on a soap opera — even if your character is confined to a hospital bed. A Diane Miller brought plenty of life in scenes she played as the legal eagle tried to help authorities learn more about her attack. For her performance, Soap Hub ‘sentences’ Carolyn Hennesy, Diane’s portrayer, to being Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week for GH.

Carolyn Hennesy – Performer of the Week

Given the number of times Diane’s appeared in court, she knew it was important to answer as many questions as possible to help Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and other Port Charles law officials bring the hooker (or the hook, as some say) to justice.

“I’m blissfully numb,” responded Diane, mustering up a smile when Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) asked her how she was feeling. Sonny’s used to being in charge but his son Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) ordered his pops to keep quiet so he wouldn’t influence Diane’s responses. Kudos to the makeup department — a quite pale Diane certainly looked like she’d been through the wringer and lost a fair amount of blood.

We wouldn’t expect Diane to ever lose her sharp edge and, despite being in a hospital bed, she did not when she quipped that she thought only ‘heresy’ applied to courtrooms. Carolyn Hennesy found the perfect balance with Diane. She played her well enough to answer questions but she was also still weak from her ordeal. You could hear it in her voice.

Understandably, anyone who’d been attacked the way Diane was would likely be confused when it came to the exact sequence of events. We watched Hennesy have Diane methodically put the case together but we never forgot that she was the victim in all this.

Frustrated that she couldn’t remember more, Diane perked up when Dante asked her if she heard anything. That’s when she recalled the sound of bracelets clicking together. When Sonny placed a supportive hand on Diane’s shoulder before he left, Diane used her hand to reach back to him and gave out an ‘ouch.’ Hennesy never let us forget that Diane’s still recovering and it may be some time before she does.

Dr. TJ Ashford let Diane know that she wasn’t fully recalling her attacker’s identity because her mind was protecting her from her trauma. He told her not to drive herself too hard to remember. Things would come back in time. “Sorry, Doc, that’s not going to work for me — now, I just want this maniac caught,” Diane replied. Even when Carolyn Hennesy’s alter-ego is flat on her back and helpless, she never loses her savvy edge. Carolyn Hennesy always brings her A-game to her scenes.

Honorable Mention: Kudos to Maura West (Ava Jerome Cassadine) and Jon Lindstrom (Ryan Chamberlin) for another round of cat-and-mouse mind games at Spring Ridge Prison. We almost (repeat almost) felt sorry for the sociopath who faced Ava’s inquiring mind when she visited him. Ava didn’t go after the supposedly incapacitated Ryan physically but she played mind games with him, taunting him with her suspicions about Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl — we’re so glad she’s back!) On her way out the door, Ava got one last shot in on Ryan, telling him she was going to look into another neurological test being performed on him just so there’d be no question as to what his true condition is. West always knows how to end a scene with an extra bit of snap!
