Lucas Jones returned to General Hospital for his mother, Bobbie’s, funeral. He also…we think…met his angel sister, BJ. Lost in the shuffle was an off-handed comment on Michael’s part that Lucas was helping out with Wiley. Lucas. Was helping out. With Wylie. The boy he raised as his own son for a year. The boy he named. The boy he was forced to give up when the truth came out about his husband, Brad’s, deception. Lucas was helping out with Wiley. And we didn’t get the chance to see that. We really, really should have.
We realize the focus of the episodes was on Bobbie, and her portrayer, the late Jacklyn Zeman. We have no interested in taking the focus off her. In fact, we would have liked to see more. A whole week dedicated to Bobbie and Zeman, with plenty of vintage flashbacks would have been peachy-keen by us.
It was lovely to see Lucas (Ryan Carnes) again, and “Angela’s” (Brighton Hertford) final, “Champ,” was a real heart-tugger (read about her return here). But you know what else could have been a heart-tugger? Seeing Lucas lay eyes on Wiley for the first time in years.
Can you imagine what Lucas must have been feeling when he saw Wiley? Well, you’ll have to imagine it, because you won’t see it. Wiley, supposedly, would have no memories of his first dad. Well, no conscious memories, anyway. But, on some level, he had to know. (Remember when Bobbie claimed that, after she lost her adopted son, Lucas, and then he was returned to her, “He looked at me like something he’d lost.” How awesome would THAT flashback have been, under the circumstances?)
We can imagine Wiley instantly glomming onto Lucas, and asking Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) who that man was. We can imagine him asking Michael (Chad Duell). We can imagine Michael and Willow finally have to deal with what they did to Wiley when they snatched him away from the only home he’d ever known without a second thought. Yeah, we can imagine.
