As the new year began not even two months ago, it seemed that Elizabeth Webber and Hamilton Finn were over and done on General Hospital. He believed she had an affair with Nikolas, and she did not seem to mind him knowing. In fact, Elizabeth told Nikolas that she and Finn had underlying relationship problems that had nothing to do with him. She was right, and fans were relieved, but now we have whiplash as Finn and Liz are suddenly in each other’s orbit in a big way once again.
One of the biggest problems fans had with this ill-conceived and ill-received pairing was Finn’s (Michael Easton) penchant for butting into Liz’s (Rebecca Herbst) life when she’s asked him to stay out of it. He’s right back to the same old habits now that he knows what happened with Nikolas (Adam Huss) and Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) in the Wyndemere north tower. In fact, he is once again spreading her news around town as he tried to get legal advice from Alexis with a vague and hypothetical story.
Of course, Elizabeth was already talking to her own lawyer, Scott (Kin Shriner), because she is capable of doing things for herself. She even had to tell Finn that, pointing out that one of their many issues as a sorta-couple was him trying to play hero and meddling in her life.
As expected, Finn defended himself and denied the accusation, but Elizabeth had a very valid point. We would have thought that was another way of Elizabeth telling Finn they were over, but there he was suggesting they hang out together at Portia’s (Brook Kerr) and Curtis’s (Donnell Turner) wedding, and there she was agreeing to it.
We are still not sure what GH has planned with Elizabeth and Finn as the soap is giving more mixed signals than an online date you just met. Does the show think Finn can now try to correct course and not play hero for Liz now that he’s been made aware of his problem, and they can start from scratch with a couple the majority of fans do not enjoy?
If so, stop right now. One line from Liz doesn’t mean they can start anew. It means they never should have tried romance to begin with because it just doesn’t work. The chemistry isn’t there, and their last year of story leaves a bad taste in so many mouths.
The best thing GH can do is cut its losses. Don’t even make Elizabeth and Finn friends as it just comes off as awkward. There are other fish in the Port Charles sea, and it’s time that these two characters went fishing once again.
