Morally Upright GH: Sonny Corinthos Is Shocked By the Depravity Around Him

Ava finally came clean with Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital. And Sonny, as usual, had much to say. He was especially incensed to process that Ava’s ex-husband, Nikolas, had sex with his son, Spencer’s, girlfriend, and got Esme pregnant. This is shocking! This is unconscionable! This is icky! This is…familiar?

Sonny Corinthos: Do as I Say, Not as I Do

We realize that Sonny (Maurice Benard) has a long and storied history of judging other people for committing crimes he himself has committed. Sonny is very good at compartmentalizing. What he does can always be easily explained.

Did you know he had an abusive stepfather? Did you know that he feels compelled to protect his family no matter what? Did you know that he only kills because the other guy forced him into it? There, one of those excuses should cover whatever it is anyone thinks he did wrong this time. But don’t, for a minute, think it applies to anyone else.

General Hospital: None of the Above

Unfortunately, his usual list of justifications doesn’t apply to this scenario. Yes, we know: Nik slept with Spencer’s (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) kind-of girlfriend, Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl), and conceived cutie-pie Ace.

But, um, see, Sonny slept with his son, Morgan’s (Bryan Craig) girlfriend, Ava (Maura West), and conceived his second youngest child, Avery. Sure, Sonny did it in a crypt. And afterward, he didn’t lock Ava up in the family castle. But, he did inform her that, soon as she popped that baby out, he’d be killing her. So, you know, the psychological torture piece was still there.

Sonny Corinthos: Call and Response

Ava must have still been reeling from that pop to the head Betty gave her because she wasn’t thinking straight. She didn’t point out that Sonny had done the exact same thing he was now excoriating Nik for. Good thing we were all yelling it at the TV set, instead.
