General Hospital’s fictional town of Port Charles is a bustling metropolis in upstate New York with hotels, restaurants, bars, and all kinds of hot-spots. Here is where to go If you want to see and be seen in PC.
The Hotel
If you are vacationing or in town for business, you must stay at the Metro Court Hotel. Owned by Carly (Laura Wright) and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero), the Metro Court offers luxurious rooms. One negative is a problem with security, as some guests have had their rooms broken into or have been shot at the hotel.
The restaurant and bar are always busy. You can run into some local celebrities such as the mayor, the mob boss, and even the Editor of Crimson, as the magazine’s offices are in the hotel.
If the weather is warm, the Metro Court pool is the place to be for sunbathing, swimming, or a drink at the bar. But be careful that someone doesn’t fall out of a window or parachute into the pool.
Town Bars
The most popular Port Charles bar is Charlie’s Pub. There was a time that Charlie’s hosted karaoke nights, but that hasn’t happened in a while. The latest owner, Kristina (Kate Mansi) recently updated the decor and hired Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) as the bartender. It should become busier than ever.
The Brown Dog is a newfound spot for Port Charles residents. It’s a great place to watch a PCU football game, but be careful if you spot a drunken Cody, (Josh Kelly) because he may be looking to start a fight. He does that at Charlie’s, too.
The Restaurants
If you’re looking for a casual bite, head to Bobbie’s (formerly Kelly’s). Another establishment owned by Carly, they serve the best BLT and chili in town. The diner also has boarding rooms upstairs if you don’t want to stay at the Metro Court. Everyone who is anyone in Port Charles has worked at Bobbie’s at one time. The owner’s daughter, Josslyn (Eden McCoy), may serve you lunch now.
Haven Bistro is a popular coffee shop where residents are often seen having heart-to-heart talks.
Other Popular Go-Tos
If you need a manicure, head to Marta & Chloe Nail Salon. They give great mani-pedis, but speak quietly because many listening ears are in the chairs.
Get over to Volonino’s gym if you want to work out. It’s geared mostly toward boxing but many residents go just for exercise or sometimes to chat. It is owned by Sonny (Maurice Benard) and he is often seen there.
If boxing isn’t your thing, try the yoga studio. It’s great for a more Zen workout.
Of course, the hospital is always the center of all things Port Charles. If you are sick or just have a doctor’s appointment, you will go to GH. Some seem to be there just wandering the halls looking for someone to talk to.
Port Charles is a busy place which may also be the only city in upstate NY to have docks. But be careful if you want to see them — it is a high-crime area. Are there any other places you know of in town? Let us know in the comments.
