Jordan Ashford is the former Port Charles Police Commissioner on General Hospital. She’s the town’s current deputy mayor. She’s also smart, sexy, statuesque, determined, and she always means business. So, why isn’t the character a more integral part of the action on GH? It’s quite the conundrum.
Jordan Ashford: Utility Player Who Needs an Upgrade
Besides fighting the good fight in law enforcement, Jordan (Tanisha Harper) has spent much of her time in Port Charles either apologizing for her mistakes, pining after Curtis (Donnell Turner), being a mom to TJ (Tajh Bellow), or keeping secrets. That’s when we see her. All too often, she’s off the canvas and only pops up when a major crime needs to be handled.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Jordan’s a viable character and we want to see her explore and experience different beats just like so many other characters in Port Charles. Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) was unjustifiably released from prison. Why did she have to find out from Portia (Brook Kerr)? After all, Jordan and Cyrus have history and she’s in the mayor’s office. She should have known before he was out so she could come up with a plan to put him back behind bars.
General Hospital: Lonely in Port Charles
It’s great that she and Curtis are friends and she’s no longer longing after him. Somebody, please write a love interest for the woman. She needs love just as much as anyone else. What happened to Portia’s brother Zeke (Gavin Houston)? We’re on board with this pairing. The two instantly shed sparks and created chemistry, but then their quality time fizzled and now Zeke’s nowhere to be found. Can he come back to town please — pronto? There’s something there. And if not Zeke, then there are a number of GH actors they can chemistry test with Tanisha Harper.
Laura (Genie Francis) and her hubby Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) left town for the summer to find Nikolas (Adam Huss). Great. The mayor exited stage right, and the deputy mayor stepped up and took her place for the time being, right? We did see her utilizing her mayoral skills here and there, but not enough. Recently, they had Jordan tell Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) that he was on desk duty after shooting Mason (Nathanyael Gray). The scene felt very commissioner-y and had nothing to do with her current gig. She’s now questioning whether she wants to stay in politics or go back to PCPD. We like this political pivot for her. General Hospital needs to commit to showing Jordan as deputy mayor.
GH: Friends First
If the show wants to continue playing to her obvious investigative fierceness, then let’s see Jordan do this as a side hustle. We bet she and Anna (Finola Hughes) can team up and bring down the bad guys better than the PCPD. They’re always comparing notes while sitting poolside at the Metro Court Hotel or at the hotel restaurant. They should be given a more active scenario. Jordan recently offered her help to her bestie who’s really struggling right now. Anna said she’s good but we would love to see these two amazing women causing trouble and taking names. Jordan Ashford and her portrayer deserve better.
