General Hospital, Show Us The Mayor: Does Laura Collins Ever Do Her Job?

We get it, General Hospital, saving the world is important, and Laura Collins needed to take a break from her day job to run off to Greenland and stop Victor from releasing a toxin to kill most of the living things on the planet. Thanos, much? And since Port Charles is located on the planet, you can even make the argument that she was doing her job as mayor. So we’ll give her a pass on that one.

But now Laura (Genie Francis) wants to take off for Russia to look for her missing son. Not only is now not an optimal time to go to Russia, but there is no way that this latest jaunt can be even peripherally connected to her day job. So we feel compelled to ask: Does Mayor Collins ever plan to do any actual mayoring?

GH: Crime Spree

If we were running against Laura for office, the first thing we would accuse her of is being soft on crime. Now, to be fair, no previous mayor has ever tried too hard to put a damper on Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) criminal enterprises. But Laura just went along with that.

And she’s not exactly itching to curb Selina (Lydia Look), either. We realize that, back in the day, Laura was pretty tight with a certain budding mobster. But, in the end, they actually worked together to bring down the syndicate, not let it operate freely. So where is that Laura now?

General Hospital: Dust Storm

The past week saw most of New York state covered in sepia-colored air pollution. Other mayors along the east coast were closing schools, opening centers for senior citizens without air filters at home, and ensuring there was enough space in the emergency rooms for asthmatics and other people with breathing issues. But not Laura! She had her own stuff going on. Port Charles, you’re on your own!
