Apparently, Ned Quartermaine is going to hold onto his super duper secret that he is actually innocent of whistleblowing a little longer on General Hospital. When he sent his Eddie Maine persona packing, he also remembered Nina’s the one to turn Michael and Drew into the SEC, not him. Surprisingly, he let Olivia talk him into keeping his mouth shut. Now, he has a plan that could press pause on him clearing his name soon.
Instead, Ned (Wally Kurth) tries to blackmail Ms. Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) into finding out information on Aurora’s behind-the-scenes deals Michael (Chad Duell) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) are efforting. How is this going to work? After all, Michael is ALREADY leveraging Nina’s whistleblowing ways in order to control her face time with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Wiley (Viron Weaver). Plus, he’s ensuring Carly (Laura Wright) gets back her stake in the Metro Court Hotel. For the record, the latter hasn’t happened yet.
And now, Ned wants to do the same. If Nina doesn’t discover information at Aurora that weakens Michael and Drew and strengthens Ned’s stance at ELQ, he’ll run and tell all to Willow. Will Nina give into this dirty dealing proposition? It’s Nina, so one never knows. She has a way of wiggling out of certain situations.
Having said all that, isn’t Nina dealing with enough? She’s now potentially being blackmailed twice via both Michael and Ned. Meanwhile, Anna (Finola Hughes) is also side-eyeing her because she deleted the footage of Charlotte breaking into her hotel room at the Metro Court. Furthermore, she’s keeping some of Ava’s (Maura West) secrets. And, of course, Sonny (Maurice Benard) has no idea she’s the one who turned in Carly and Drew to the SEC. The pressure on this woman is thick. How long before Nina’s back breaks from all of this toxic baggage?
Look, it’s great that Ned is turning to Nina for help. Too bad it’s tainted by the blackmail label. Wouldn’t it be better if the Quartermaine simply offered to team up with the Crimson exec for a battle against Michael and Drew? Because, lately, those two have been twirling their mustaches looking to snag ELQ from Ned’s clutches. They’ve called Ned incompetent at his job (behind his back, remember?).
At one point they didn’t even wait for Ned to get his memories back to try and grab control. Too bad Ned’s not privy to these calculated conversations. Maybe then he would take matters into his own hands and forget Nina turned in two people who actually committed a crime.
Ned and Nina could make a great platonic pair who cause serious damage to Drew and Michael. They’d figure out a way to get them both what they want. Who knows, this might be the unexpected team-up we all deserve. What’s more, Nina is an imminently resourceful ally to have, albeit a bit chaotic and messy. However, if you force her back against the wall, she might not be so willing to provide her special brand of help.
Maybe — just maybe — this dynamic could begin with blackmail and evolve into a collaboration that’s more pure, exciting, and devastating. All things more pleasant and fun to watch than another blackmail attempt.
