Trina and Kai should be the new hot young couple on General Hospital, but something isn’t working for most fans. They seem to be falling flat, but why?
Chemistry 101
Trina (Tabyana Ali) is beautiful and smart. We already know she can be part of a young supercouple because she was one half of Sprina. Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) is a tall, smart, handsome football player. We would think that their chemistry should be off the charts. But it isn’t. Something feels off to many fans.
Trina may be ready for a new love after Spencer (ex-Nicholas Chavez), but maybe viewers aren’t, or at least not with Kai. Their love story is not as heavy and angst-ridden as it was with Spencer, so it doesn’t have the same appeal. It’s basically a bit boring, which may work in real life, but not so much on a soap. Fans have nothing to root for with this couple.
Football, Surgery, And Drew, Oh My!
Kai was a football player who didn’t know about art. Trina taught him what she loved, and he got her into football. Then came a catastrophic injury (which, truth be told, never really made much sense), followed by an expensive miraculous surgery paid for by the evil Drew (Cameron Mathison).
Kai is cured (but is he?) and has to participate in what seems to be a very boring documentary. He loves Drew for saving him, but Trina and her family hate him. We still have no idea why Drew did this for him, and who knows if we ever will, but now Kai is nosying around in Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Portia’s (Brook Kerr) marriage. Maybe Drew’s endgame all along was to get Kai to turn against his girlfriend’s parents. This whole debacle may come between the young couple, but most fans just don’t care. They were never invested in this romance anyway. Many are hoping for Spencer’s return from the dead.
GH has turned it up in recent weeks. Fans are fully invested in many storylines, and their ratings are better than ever. With all that is going on in Port Charles, Trina and Kai just aren’t cutting it. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments section.
