Empty Nest: Why Has Laura Collins Been Abandoned on General Hospital?

Poor Laura Collins and her General Hospital empty nest. With the presumed death of her oldest son, Nikolas Cassadine, the mayor of Port Charles, no longer has any children left in Port Charles. And that’s pretty sad for a character who basically put the show on the pop culture map.

General Hospital: People Who Need People

We realize that General Hospital was on the air for over 15 years before Laura Vining first popped up. And the character was even played by a different, pre-teen actress before Genie Francis took over the role of the newly renamed Laura Webber. But it was Laura who, along with one Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary), put the show on the cover of People Magazine, and was the bride in the most watched daytime wedding of all time.

General Hospital: Mother Time For Laura Collins

Laura, with or without Luke now, should be the matriarch of Port Charles, not just its political leader. But that’s hard to do when your children keep dropping like flies. Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) was the first to take off. He’s in Ireland now. Trying not to turn into his father.

Then, Laura lost daughter Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) to a coma. And now Nikolas (Adam Huss) has been conked on the head. It’s hard to be a matriarch without anyone to mother.

Where Is The Next Generation?

Sure, Laura still has a couple of grandchildren in town. There’s Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). And Rocco Falconeri. And Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) boys. Aiden may be Lucky’s only biological child, but he also considered Cameron (William Lipton) and Jake his, and so does Laura.

There’s also Charlotte. She’s…somewhere. And more mature than when she left town. Plus, there’s Esme Prince’s (Avery Kristen Pohl) baby-to-be. But the lack of kids still feels odd. And should be rectified as soon as possible.
