On the Wednesday, March 27 episode of General Hospital, Sonny collapsed in pain. After first clutching his stomach as if he’d eaten some bad sushi, Sonny moved his hands up to his chest, remembering that it was a heart condition he had. Was Sonny having a fatal cardiac incident? Was the only thing standing between him and the calls of the cold, dark grave his medication… and Ava? It’s not the first time we’ve seen this play out in Port Charles?
Save Me
Ava (Maura West) had just come over to ask Sonny (Maurice Benard) for money, when he crumbled and hit the ground, losing his life-saving pills as he did so. This intrigued Ava. Did Sonny need those pills? Were they critical to his existence? Did he need her help? Was Ava expected to give it to him? Right after he’d not only denied her own pleas for help, but threatened to take Ava’s daughter away? Sonny thinks Ava should see even less of Avery.
Well, maybe Ava thinks Sonny doesn’t deserve to keep breathing? Oh, sure, that party pooper Kristina (Kate Mansi) popped up and saved Dear Old Dad. And then it turned out his attack wasn’t even that critical. So, no harm, no foul. But was what we just saw an affectionate homage… or a flat-out rerun?

The Late Great
Almost exactly 45 years ago, in May of 1980, Edward (David Lewis) wanted to test his daughter, Tracy’s (Jane Elliot) loyalty. Edward thought Tracy cared more about herself and the Quartermaine money than she did about her own Dear Old Daddy. So Edward faked a heart attack. He begged Tracy for his life-saving pills. She heard him. And then wandered over to the window to check out the view. Edward kept begging. Tracy kept ignoring him. And then he got up and admitted he’d staged the whole thing. Oops.
