Luke’s Death
Geary and Luke both left Port Charles for good in 2015, with a brief cameo in 2017 when Tracy (Jane Elliot) left the show. Then, in 2022, it was announced that Luke had died. Tracy, who had returned to GH, announced to Luke’s long-time love, Laura (Genie Francis), that Luke had been killed in a cable-car “accident” in Austria.
It was later implied that Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) was behind the accident. This was not a very fitting end to an epic character who helped redefine soaps in the 1970s and 1980s. GH might have died off long ago if it weren’t for Luke and Laura.
When it happened, a few characters even questioned how Luke died. The ending felt flat for the Port Charles hero, and his sister Bobbie (the late Jacklyn Zeman) expressed disbelief that her heroic brother died in an accident. The Luke that we all knew and loved was more likely to save everyone than to perish the way he did.
While Geary was still alive, fans held on to the hope that he would be found alive and, once again, make a triumphant return to Port Charles. Unfortunately, that never happened.
Give Luke a Better Farewell
The character of Luke should have gone out with more fanfare than he did. Now that Geary has passed, it may be a good time to change up Luke’s death.
Laura and Sonny (Maurice Benard) have been working together to get out from Sidwell’s (Carlo Rota) control. Laura even brought Luke’s name up during one of their conversations. A case could be made where Sidwell is either working for or related to the Cassadines. The villain would have information on how Luke really died, and maybe even had something to do with it.
It would be great to see Sonny and Laura delve deeper into the truth. Fans love their relationship, and they are the perfect pair to finally give the Luke character the ending he always deserved.
