Dante Falconeri And His Criminal General Hospital Hypocrisy

Published by

Dante Falconeri likes to think of himself as the stalwart, upstanding type on General Hospital. He’s a cop who fights for truth, justice, and the American way. Sure, his father is criminal mob boss Sonny Corinthos, but, as Dante boasted to Sam McCall recently, he has never let that get in the way of his stalwart upstandingness. He has never covered up one of Sonny’s crimes. Oh…really?

Dante Falconeri: First Time Out

GH viewers first met Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) as an undercover cop infiltrating Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) organization so he could bring the mafia don down for good. While pretending to be Sonny’s loyal flunky, Dante had a chance to get up close and personal with many of Sonny’s less-than-legal activities. Yes, when he learned that he was Sonny’s long-lost son, Dante dismissed all of the evidence he must have accumulated.

Now, you could argue that there was never enough to put Sonny behind bars, or else Dante would have done it while still on duty. But you know what took Dante off duty? Sonny shooting him in the chest.

Yeah. Sonny figured out that Dante was a cop. So when Dante approached him and identified himself as a police officer – by the book, so Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennessey) couldn’t later claim entrapment – Sonny shot him, point blank, in the chest. He was aiming to kill.

Alas, a few minutes later, Dante’s mama, Olivia Falconeri (Lisa LoCicero), showed up, and sobbed that Sonny had just shot his son! Sonny immediately felt bad. He swore that he loved Dante. What kind of man would shoot his beloved child?

General Hospital Cover Up

Dante must have felt the same way. Because when he was informed of their blood relationship, Dante declined to report what had happened — which would have put Sonny away for sure — and, instead, lied, claiming he shot himself. By accident. In the chest. How would that even work?

Guess what, Dante? That’s covering up Sonny’s crime. The thing you told Sam (Kelly Monaco) you had never done.

And there’s more. We have a strong feeling that whatever crime it was Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) served time for, Dante may have been responsible for it, as well. We’ve still to get a straight answer on that one…but Dante’s stalwart and upright halo is looking pretty tarnished these days.
