The character of Chase on General Hospital has been a pretty upstanding guy since he arrived in Port Charles, but that has changed since Willow shot Drew. He has been insistent that she is innocent, getting demoted to a patrolman because of his actions to prove it…and that is not even the worst of it. He actually set Michael up by placing a key to Drew’s house on his keyring…AND Willow is the actual shooter.
Key Takeaways
- Chase planted evidence to frame Michael while insisting Willow didn’t shoot Drew.
- Chase’s complicated past with Willow is clouding his judgment.
- Chase’s loyalty to Willow could cost him his marriage to Brook Lynn Quartermaine and his badge.
Officer And A Gentleman
Chase (Josh Swickard) arrived in town in February of 2018 as Dante Falconeri’s (Dominic Zamprogna) partner after the “death” of his previous partner, Nathan West (Ryan Paevey). After being involved briefly with Nelle (Chloe Lanier), he set his sights on Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). She was being harassed by Dawn of Day cult leader Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin), who had raped her. After rescuing her, Willow and Chase became a couple.
Their happiness was short-lived because she entered into a marriage of convenience with Michael (Rory Gibson) so that he could keep custody of his son, Wiley. She agreed to do so after finding Chase and Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) in a compromising position, which was all staged.
In true soap fashion, Michael and Willow ended up falling in love, but when Chase became ill and was hospitalized, the pair decided the keep the news to themselves. When Chase was on his deathbed, he proposed to Willow, who accepted, and they were married. Just as Chase flatlined, he got a cure, but he ended up paralyzed. He moved into the Quartermaine mansion to recover. While there, he discovered that Michael and Willow were sleeping together and confronted the pair. Chase and Willow ultimately had their marriage annulled.
He received his first suspension from the PCPD after punching Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) in the face, which was then extended due to him punching Linc (Dan Buran) in the face while defending Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton).
Chase Finds Love With Brook Lynn
Chase and Brook Lynn’s relationship began in 2020 as part of a larger custody drama, when the two teamed up and pretended to date for strategic reasons. What started as scheming and playful banter quickly turned into real feelings, surprising them both and laying the foundation for the fan-favorite pairing known as “ChaLynn.”
Their bond deepened during one of Chase’s darkest moments, when he was poisoned and temporarily paralyzed, and Brook Lynn stood firmly by his side. However, their romance nearly collapsed when Chase learned she had kept the truth about the baby swap secret, a betrayal that led to heartbreak and separation. Despite the pain, lingering love and undeniable chemistry pulled them back together as they slowly rebuilt trust.
Over time, maturity and forgiveness transformed their relationship from chaotic to committed. Chase ultimately proposed, and the couple married. Drama quickly followed when they discovered that Chase could not father children, just as Brook Lynn learned she was Gio’s (Giovanni Mazza) mother. Chase stood by her through the reveal and fallout, and the couple weathered the storm until Willow once again became front and center in Chase’s life. But he is betraying the Quartermaine family with his actions.
The character has become somewhat unrecognizable because of the lengths he is going to to prove Michael’s guilt and Willow’s innocence. It is causing tension with Brook Lynn and the entire Quartermaine family.
Swickard has always played Chase as extremely likable and loyal, and that has not changed. What has changed is that the audience knows that Willow is guilty, and he is being blinded by the delusion that she is innocent.
For Chase to frame Michael was a step too far. He has already been demoted to the rank of patrolman. When the truth comes out, he is likely to lose his badge. But will he also lose his wife?
Do you think Chase deserves to lose everything, or do you think it is totally in character for him to be acting this way?
