Carly’s Plan to Protect Valentin May Force Him to Protect Nina Instead on GH

Valentin may have to protect Nina from an investigation that only gained momentum because Carly defended him.

On General Hospital, Carly was trying to protect Valentin when Agent Baines started asking questions about Jack’s disappearance. Her solution was simple enough: point the WSB toward someone else who had a public reason to be angry with Jack. The problem is that Carly chose Nina, and Valentin made it very clear that Nina is still someone he does not want caught in the blast radius.

Key Takeaways

  • Carly redirected Baines toward Nina while trying to protect Valentin.
  • Baines already had reason to take Nina seriously because of her public fight with Jack.
  • Valentin made it clear he still cares what happens to Nina.
  • Carly’s diversion could force Valentin to work against the very lead she created.
  • Nina could look especially guilty if Baines uncovers the evidence planted against her.

Carly Put Nina Directly in Baines’ Path

Carly (Laura Wright) had every reason to get Baines (Alimi Ballard) away from Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). Baines knew Valentin had a long and ugly history with Jack (Chris McKenna), and he even pointed out that Valentin had the skills to make someone disappear. Carly immediately defended Valentin and told Baines he should be talking to Nina (Cynthia Watros) instead.

That suggestion was not random. Carly had witnessed Nina’s public blowup with Jack, and Baines already knew the two had fallen out. From Carly’s point of view, she was handing him a lead that actually existed instead of letting him keep staring at Valentin.

What Carly may not have considered was how seriously Baines would take it. If he starts digging into Nina, he could find plenty that looks bad before he ever finds anything that clears her. In Port Charles, being innocent and looking innocent are two completely different hobbies.

Valentin May Have to Undo Carly’s Diversion

Valentin’s reaction is where things get complicated. He did not thank Carly for steering Baines away from him and leave it at that. Instead, he worried about Nina and made it clear he did not want to see her hurt.

That creates a nasty problem for him. If Baines follows Carly’s suggestion, Valentin may have to start protecting Nina from an investigation Carly helped create in order to protect him. He would not be choosing Nina over Carly romantically, but he could still end up pushing against Carly’s own plan.

And the situation could get much worse fast. Nina does not know Jack is dead, and she certainly does not know evidence is waiting to make her look guilty. Carly may have saved Valentin from becoming Baines’ favorite suspect for the moment, only to hand Valentin another mess he may feel compelled to clean up.
