A Critic’s Review Of GH: Sight For Sore Eyes And Redemption

The author’s opinions on GH are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

My goodness was Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine) a sight for sore eyes or what? If only her commanding presence wasn’t wasted on this G-dawful malpractice storyline.

I was also tickled pink to see Tracy (Jane Elliot) back in fine form — her terming Lois (Rena Sofer) and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) “Pink Ladies” and the “Bridge and Tunnel Twins” was a hoot — and I just adore her interactions with precocious Leo (Easton Rocket Sweda). But the pièces de résistance were her reunions with Ned (Wally Kurth) and Monica.

Further GH Musings

* Boy, did Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) get deep or what? And while parallels were drawn between Dante’s and Anna’s (Finola Hughes) pasts, did anybody else think that the former might as well have been talking about Sonny (Maurice Benard) as well? Even he’d probably agree that he’s not so much redeemed himself as he has rewritten and/or simply chooses to ignore a vast majority of his sins.

Perfect example — Sonny’s underwriting the hospital’s annual Christmas parties for staff and patients. Though the likes of Stella (Vernee Watson) and Felicia (Kristina Wagner) may sing his praises to the heavens, his good deeds don’t quite make up for the death and destruction in his wake.

* Biggest Headscratcher of the Week: Nina (Cynthia Watros) submitting to yet more blackmail when just coming clean would be the easiest option. At this point, you have to wonder if the woman isn’t a secret masochist and loving every minute of her torment.

* How disconcerting to see the writers steadfastly refusing to repair fan favorite couple Scott (Kin Shriner) and Liesl (Kathleen Gati). And for what purpose? To shoehorn him into a triangle with Lucy (Lynn Herring) and Martin (Michael E. Knight)? The three would actually have to have something resembling a prominent place on the canvas in order for me to even consider getting invested.

* I’m not exactly sure what the point of clarifying Dex’s (Evan Hofer) pretty basic backstory was, but it’s not exactly swayed me on the character one way or the other.

* While I want to ship Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) and Robert (Tristan Rogers), all I can see is the inevitable misery when Holly (Emma Samms) (eventually) returns to town and once again stakes her claim on her favorite ex-hubby.
