When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
You take the good: Ava (Maura West) and Cyrus’s (Jeff Kober) tense, though humorous tête-à-tête, Tracy’s (Jane Elliot) return, Lois (Rena Sofer) invoking Edward and Lila to make a point to Ned (Wally Kurth), Lois and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) proving that female friendship is alive and well and should be celebrated more often, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Martin (Michael E. Knight) prepping Finn (Michael Easton), Anna (Finola Huges) and Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) searing confrontation.
You take the bad: TJ (Tajh Bellow) and Molly (Kristen Vaganos) flipflopping on their previous positions just so this heinous surrogacy story can proceed, the reveal that the WSB has been taken over by yet another megalomaniacal villain, those torturous Mashall the Martyr (Robert Gossett) scenes, Trina (Tabyana Ali) excitedly abandoning Curtis (Donnell Turner) and her grandfather to go over and practically rub salt in Spencer’s (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) wounds. Ace will subconsciously remember him and what he did for him. Spencer isn’t abandoning his baby brother. Ace is just moving with his mother to another apartment.
You take them both, and there you have the General Hospital week that was in a nutshell.
* Given her penchant for dropping her duties on a dime for globetrotting adventuring, it was actually jarring to see Laura (Genie Francis) in mayor mode.
* No doubt Jason rolled over in his (metaphorical) grave when Jake (Hudson West) went on his anti-gun spiel. And not for nothing, but Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez) got herself shot, letting herself into the home of a woman she’d spent months terrorizing.
* Not that I’m decrying the use of veteran actors, but what was the point of Lucy (Lynn Herring) and Scotty’s (Kin Shriner) scenes? I thought perhaps they were setting up some flashbacks to their glory days, but clearly, the production team couldn’t be bothered to splice some in. Then again, there was lots of talking about Serena…
* What has become of that LGBTQIA+ youth home that Kristina intended to open?
* While Maxie (Kirsten Storms) can’t believe she left her phone in her office while overseeing Cody (Josh Kelly) and Sasha’s (Sofia Mattsson) public appearance, I can’t believe the fashionista paired that gaudy necklace with that flannel shirt.
