When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
What with all the nodding shoutouts to hardly referenced lore (Lucy’s Aunt Charlene! Delia Ryan Coleridge’s is Ava’s birthmother!) and minute character details (what, you’re telling me you remembered that Ned’s government name was Edward Lawrence Quartermaine Ashton?) in Monday’s airshow, I started to wonder if perhaps we were finally viewing material penned by fi-core writers.
A quick perusal of the credits proved otherwise. There were Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris’s names along with another writer or two whose moniker seemed familiar. Strange. It’s not like this team to drudge up the past unless they plan to spin it to suit their purposes. But I’ll take it.
What I’d rather take, however, is the plethora of reduxes I see on my TV screen. Curtis’s (Donnell Turner) paralysis tale smacks of Sonny’s own battle with the same condition (and both were failed by an assassin’s bullet. Funny that.) which we saw play out not that long ago. And Sasha’s (Sofia Mattsson) wounding of Cody (Josh Kelly) recalls Alexis’s (Nancy Lee Grahn) stabbing Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) with a needle full of lidocaine (and that little whoopsie is barely 2 years old).
I’m just saying, a little originality never hurt anyone.
* As far as awkward double dates go, Ava’s (Maura West) and Austin’s (Roger Howarth) with Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Sonny (Maurice Benard) was one of the better ones. And thank goodness it appears we’ll finally get some forward momentum in the long-stalled “Mason (Nathanyael Grey) and The Family vs. Austin” tale.
* Bully for Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase (Josh Swickard) for finally showing some internal growth and maturity.
* I continue to struggle to care about recast Kristina (Kate Mansi) and recast of a recast Molly (now Brooke Anne Smith) whining over the issue of surrogacy — especially as all I can see when I look at new, new Molly is a woman who more than vaguely resembles Brooklyn Rae Silzer [Emma Scorpio-Drake]. GH would be wise to cut their losses and cut this storyline.
* While I appreciate the latest wrinkle added to Esme’s (Avery Kristen Pohl) rather lacking background, I can’t help but wish GH would bring but a few of its (other) meandering storylines to a close before launching a mission to uncover whether or not Miss Prince is daytime’s answer to The Bad Seed.
