A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Shock and Awe

The author’s opinions on GH are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

Another Friday, another gasp-inducing cliffhanger. Whodunit? Who shot Austin (Roger Howarth)? Imma bet Ava (Maura West). Hell hath no fury like this woman scorned. Better question, why didn’t it happen sooner? Even better question, how is it Austin is lying in a pool of blood with a bullet in his chest instead of Cyrus (Jeff Kober)? That’s your money storyline. But I’ll take what I was given, because at least it was unexpected.

Further GH Musings

* Dear Whoever Is In Charge, Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) sitting around bemoaning Robert’s (Tristan Rogers) devotion to his ex-wives does not a story make.

* Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) as some corporate bigwig, wheeling and dealing will never make sense to me.

* Though I was never onboard with TJ and Molly’s surrogacy journey, I’ll be damned if Tajh Bellow and Kristen Vaganos aren’t putting in the work in response to Andrea supposedly losing the baby.

Note the emphasis on the word “supposedly.” General Hospital is, after Days of our Lives of course, the soap that just loves plots constructed around purloined and/or switched babies.

* Thrilled as I am by the prospect of a storyline based around the hospital and a doctor that works therein, how I wish it wasn’t also an obvious prop for the unappealing Finn/Elizabeth coupling.

And I hate to break it to Terry (Cassandra James), but GH has a loooooong history of malpractice suits, dating back to at least 1963 when charges were filed against Dr. Phil Brewer.

* Who was that woman in Ned’s (Wally Kurth) bed convincing him to let sleeping dogs lie? Because I know that’s not the Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) that’s been on my screen since 2008.
