A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Quickened Pace & Some Hiccups

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

While I’m not loving everything that the interim head writers are doing (I am VERY hard to please…apparently), I can’t help but thrill to the quickened pace, the continued mingling of disparate characters/actors, and the filling in of several glaring plot holes.

Does it make much sense that Cyrus (Jeff Kober) is the head of the Pautauk Posse? No. None. In fact, it pretty much negates everything we thought we knew to be true about Austin (Roger Howarth). Ditto the revelation that it was Austin who spirited a very much alive Nikolas away and placed him in Mason’s (Nathanyael Grey) care. But you know what? At least we now have ANSWERS, and that’s more than I can say for nearly three years of Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris’s tenure.

And there’s finally, FINALLY, some headway being made with other storylines as well, Sasha’s (Sofia Mattsson) plight –and Cody’s (Josh Kelly) role as ultimate savior — and the upheaval at Deception especially. For all this, I say thank you.

Now, all praise aside, it’s time to deliver some lumps. First and foremost, stop this surrogacy story before it progresses any further. It should have never been started without Lexi Ainsworth in the frame, and now that we are on the third Molly it’s time to cut your losses.

I’d also appreciate seeing Ava FREAKIN Jerome (Maura West) regain some of her bite [and I will continue to harp on her declawing until the situation is addressed] and I need to understand why the Divine Madame Wu (Lydia Look) seems content with taking Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Marshall’s (Robert Gossett) guff. Didn’t she ensure the spectacular demises of two of her fellow dons merely because they irritated her far more than wanna-be mobstress Carly and forever lackey Jason (Steve Burton)?

Also, can we dispense with Dex (Evan Hofer) literally following a step behind the people he’s supposed to be stealthy tailing? And the less said about Willow “I Want To Go Back To Work Less Than Three Months After A Bone Marrow Transplant” Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) the better, so I’m just going to end the “Highlights” section here.

Further GH Musings

* How wonderful it was to hear Leslie Charleson’s [Monica Quartermaine] voice again. She is loved, and she is missed.

* Is it just me, or did Jeff Kober seem to age backward after cutting that mop and ditching the scruff?
