A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Kudos With Some Hiccups

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

If I’m not sorely mistaken, Victor Cassadine’s (Charles Shaughnessy) endgame has been *ahem* cribbed from at least four different James Bond movies…which makes sense once you realize that the character has finally — FINALLY — gone full Blofeld. R.I.P. Eileen (Heather Mazur), you won’t exactly be missed.

The same can’t be said for Epiphany Johnson and her portrayer Sonya Eddy. This loss has hurt and will continue to do so for some time, at least where Eddy’s costars are concerned. Sadly, I’m not too sold on General Hospital being able to long telegraph the measureless loss of “Piph.”

That said, the soap did do better by the character/actress than I expected. Seeing Drew Cheetwood back as Milo, interacting with Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) — cheers for the Max shoutout! — and connecting with Marshall (Robert Gossett) was such a delight. Ditto Brooklyn Rae Silzer’s reprisal of Emma Scorpio-Drake.

I was also thrilled to see Marc Samuel back as Felix, though I couldn’t help but think to myself during his scenes, “Wouldn’t it be lovely if GH invested in Felix rather than trot in him out once in a blue moon?” Also, why didn’t Felix speak during the memorial service? Oh, right. Time had to be made for Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) and Carly’s (Laura Wright) speeches.

I also found it strange that the woman who owed her life to Epiphany didn’t follow the assemblage up to the roof. That might be a quibble nobody else shared, but there it is.

Further GH Musings

* A truce, between Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Carly?! I’ve heard it all now. Where’s that “rolling on the floor laughing” emoji?

* Did I just hear a reference to the Daisy Awards?! Kudos, ALL the kudos to whoever wrote that line.

* My goodness, did Cameron Webber’s (William Lipton) going away party give anyone else the feels? THAT’S the kind of stuff I watch soap operas for. Well done.
