A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Head Scratching Retcons

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

It has become more than apparent that when Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris are in doubt, their only recourse is to violate General Hospital’s cannon.

Elizabeth Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) storyline — and I’m doing the writing duo a major service by calling this a storyline — which has clearly been constructed via a “throw something at the wall and see what sticks” stratagem is now no longer hers exclusively but is instead a spotlight for widower Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton).

Worst of all, nothing adds up. Reiko Finn was established as having died from Blackwood’s syndrome not all that previous to Finn’s introduction in March of 2016, and now the writers have added the wrinkle(s) that she and Finn were already a couple and practicing doctors in 1997 and that Elizabeth, who must now be a good 15-20 years younger than Finn, may or may not have pushed Reiko down a flight of stairs after catching her dallying with Jeff Webber, whom Finn apparently never met but Reiko did? Huh? What?

Equally head-scratching is the decision to kill off Johnny Wactor’s alter ego. At this point, I have to believe that Sofia Mattsson seriously pissed off some higher-up, and a directive to make Sasha Gilmore as miserable as possible was handed down.

Seriously, what do Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris hope to achieve here? Will General Hospital soon be divesting itself of Sasha? Are their plans to slot Sasha into a triangle with, say, Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) or perhaps Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell)?

Further GH Musings

* Jacksonville, Florida = Nixon Falls 2.0

* Once again Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) has hinted of some great and terrible evil descending upon Port Charles; he’s been doing that for over a year now. Either get to it General Hospital or drop the idea completely. At this point, I don’t care which.
