When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
General Hospital: The Critic’s POV
So, I’m supposed to believe that the Ava Jerome (Maura West) who once crawled through an air vent to assassinate someone who inconvenienced her (RIP Connie!), who once plunged a knife into Ryan Chamberlin’s (Jon Lindstrom) back because he sassed her, et. al, merely (checks notes) huddled behind a car and whimpered while Mason (Nathanyael Grey) and Dex (Evan Hofer) engaged in a life-or-death struggle near a cliff?
I can maybe understand the desire to give Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) something resembling a storyline, and, of course, Dex is GH’s hero de jour, but couldn’t Ava have at least been in the middle of the fracas instead of cowering like some damsel in distress? If there’s one thing you can say about these interim writers (other than the fact that they have no inkling of One Life to Live lore) it’s that they clearly view women as passive victims, perfect for oppressing and harassing, but patently incapable of actively engaging or engineering their own rescues.
Further GH Musings
* Granted, I understand it was a contrivance to move the plot forward, but how ridiculous was it to watch Martin (Michael E. Knight) fold, especially considering who his brother is?
* I continue to decry Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine) and Gregory Harrison’s (Gregory Chase) easy but palpable chemistry considering the writers (both Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris and the fill-ins) still seem dead set on Gregory’s death sentence.
* Not to sound too unkind, but at this point is Portia’s (Brook Kerr) best bet to just cut her losses and give Curtis (Donnell Turner) the divorce he asked for months previous?
* Oh, those Lois (Rena Sofer) and Ned/”Eddie” (Wally Kurth) flashbacks were *chef’s kiss* perfection!
* Poor Sasha (Sofia Mattsson). I don’t think I’ve ever seen an innocent get such short shrift.
* Sam (Kelly Monaco) reaching out to, and comforting Carly (Laura Wright) will never not be weird, much like Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) giving Ms. Spencer the time of day.
Speaking of Elizabeth, was 93-year-old Audrey really her best childcare option? Laura (Genie Francis) couldn’t have been bothered? What about bestie Terry (Cassandra James)? Hell, what about Scott (Kin Shriner)?
