A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Anticipation, Triumph & Disappointment

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

Jane Elliot and her alter-ego are never better than when they have a rascally rogue or a young’un to play opposite — so it should come as no surprise that her scenes with Easton Rocket Sweda’s Leo were the highlight of the week [at least, as far as I’m concerned].

I’d like to say that Portia’s (Brook Kerr) and Jordan’s (Tanisha Harper) confrontation was equally pleasing, but I can’t. Instead of blasting Portia and blowing up Curtis’s (Donnell Turner) spot — which she damn well deserves to do at this point — Jordan once again took the high road. Why I don’t know. Where’s the fun, not to mention the drama, in that?

And speaking of anticipation dissipating, here was me anxiously awaiting Cody’s (Josh Kelly) triumphant over Gladys (Bonnie Burroughs) only for the victory to be really rather mooted thanks to Selina’s (Lydia Look) interference — though I must admit that Look was a sight for sore eyes.

Also, I’d very much like to get invested in this whole Ned (Wally Kurth) as Eddie Maine storyline, but it’s proving rather difficult given just how unpleasant this version of Eddie is being presented. I seem to recall adoring “Eddie” when he was with Lois and any and all times Ned trotted him out.

Further GH Musings

* On the one hand, I thank whoever wrote Tuesday’s script in regard to Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) excoriation of Drew (Cameron Mathison) for prioritizing Carly (Laura Wright) over his own daughter, on the other hand, where was the same vitriol when Carly appeared on the scene? And to have Sam actually THANK Carly for oh so selflessly trying to talk Drew out of lying to save her behind? That was the height of ridiculousness.

* Given that Laura (Genie Francis) explained to Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) that she’d already conscripted Jordan into being her Deputy Mayor A MONTH AGO, why were we just seeing the convo between the women on Monday? Were the episodes shot out of order leading to the continuity snarl? Was the script editor just having a particularly bad day?
