Can Only One Woman Have Fangs at a Time on General Hospital?!

While watching the end of yesterday’s and then today’s General Hospital, there seemed to be only one conclusion that could be made. The show is only allowed to have one strong female at a time!

How else can you explain the fact that Olivia (Tonja Walker) dissolved into a whiny heap when confronted by a gun-toting Carly (Laura Wright)?

This woman has already died once — do we really believe she cares one bit what Carly has to say or fears her? Surely she has gotten herself out of tougher jams that this over the years.

There was clue that Port Charles wasn’t big enough for two strong women after watching last week, when Olivia confronted her younger sister, Ava (Maura West), who used to hold the thorny crown of the sharpest tongue in Port Charles.

Enter hardcore big sis and suddenly conniver extraordinaire Ava seemed to cave without so much as a quick quip. This was not the Ava we’ve grown to hate (well, love to hate) and fear! That Ava would have torn into Olivia for messing with her beloved brother, Julian (William deVry).

Neither Jerome sister’s turn seemed to be true to their characters, and it was painful to watch for this viewer. How much more fun would this have all been if we were allowed to see all these women at their most ferocious go head-to-head in a battle of wits and power? It’s certainly what we were expecting.

Some may say we did get it with Anna (Finola Hughes), when she went up against Olivia, but remember that’s not really the case. Anna had already had her claws clipped by finding out she has cancer and the blood thinner proved deadly when Anna got sliced by Olivia. She was too weak to go up against Olivia at full throttle.

But there is still time for the show to redeem itself since Walker’s scenes will continue to air into next week. Is it too much to hope for that we’ll see a battle worthy of these women — and the viewers? We have faith that we will.
