Nearly five years to the day Jason and Sam took their odd vows in a Chinese restaurant garden on General Hospital, the beloved characters give it another try–and this time the bride wears white.
The Real Wedding Deal
Actress Kelly Monaco can’t believe that after 13 years of playing Samantha McCall, her character finally gets a real wedding, complete with a white dress, flowers, and English vows.
In 2011, Jason and Sam planned a large and formal affair, but ditched those plans in favor of black jeans and tees at The Noodle Buddha, their favorite Chinese restaurant. While the couple feasted on Noodle Buddha takeout the night before their big day this time around, their second wedding takes place in Carly and Sonny’s living room. The bride wears white, the groom wears a tux–and he also wears a new face.
Last year at this time, GH re-created Jason and Sam’s first ceremony when a memory-less Jason (Billy Miller), calling himself Jake, ran into Sam at the restaurant on their anniversary. The owner insisted he was Jason (and was correct), and the pair renewed their vows for fun. However, neither had any idea Jake was the original groom.
This time around, things are a bit more traditional and Monaco couldn’t be more thrilled.
Romantic Vows
“The first time they got married, we didn’t even hear them say vows,” Monaco said in the September 12 issue of Soap Opera Digest. “The Yi family did the scripted vows and if I’m remembering correctly, Sam and Jason were just like, ‘I love you,’ ‘Cool,’ ‘Cool.'”
That was par for the course with Jason 2.0, a quieter character than Billy Miller’s Jason 3.0, who many describe as a hybrid between Jason Quartermaine and Jason Morgan. No, he doesn’t have those Jason Q memories, but he has some of his more easy-going personality, combined with those Stone Cold traits.

“This is the first time I’ve said vows as a character on the show, like a full set of vows,” she told Digest. “But, I’ve been playing her for so long and I went there. I went to what I thought was a really honest, vulnerable, grateful place.”
A Dress Inspired By A Legend
Of course, Sam is still Sam and a long white gown would never fit the character right. Instead, Sam dons a white dress similar to what Elizabeth Taylor wore in the film Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. According to Digest, Monaco found the dress online and had the GH wardrobe designer, Shawn Reeves, create it.
[relbar link=”http://soaphub.wpengine.com/general-hospital/get-ready-fascinating-general-hospital-fall-port-charles/” text=”Get Ready for an Exciting Fall in Port Charles!”]”[It’s] the most beautiful dress that I have worn in all the years that I have been doing this,” Monaco told Digest. “It’s the first time I put on a dress and got goose bumps and teary eyed.”
We also expect that feeling next week as Jason and Sam say ‘I do’ again in a small and intimate ceremony that will show just how far these two beloved characters have come.
See what’s coming up next!
