Rumors had been circulating for weeks that Billy Miller leaving General Hospital, but now his status with the ABC soap is confirmed and he’s bidding Port Charles goodbye after a nearly-five-year run.
“Officially. Billy. Miller. #GH56,” Miller’s manager tweeted. The tweet also came with a video that shows farewell balloons in the actor’s dressing room. The video is scored to the song Goodbye by the group Cage The Elephant.
Miller joined GH in 2014 as a recast Jason, the role vacated by Steve Burton back in 2012. After Burton rejoined GH in 2017, the show’s writers tweaked the story. Miller wasn’t Jason after all, but rather his twin brother Drew.
During Miller’s time in Port Charles, he played out “Jason’s” return, renewed his romance with Sam (Kelly Monaco), and then immersed himself in his new character, the enigmatic Drew, who learned he’d fathered a son, Oscar (Garren Stitt), with former love Kim (Tamara Braun).
Miller’s note to his fans reads: “Hello Friends, With a slight air of sadness, it’s time to ponder what ‘Goodbye’ means. However, instead of dwelling on what is gone and sure to be missed, there is another way.
“maybe [sic] our goodbye is really a remembrance of love felt, an appreciation for lives shared, and the lifelong reminisces that come from embraces given and received. Maybe our goodbye is an earnest hope for the brightest path forward for us all. Maybe our goodbye is honoring growth and lessons learned.
“Now, instead of sadness, I am filled with gratitude for all your support, encouragement, and every emotion shared.
“I cherish the journey [sic] we have taken together. Thank you for allowing me into your homes and lives. With every once of myself, I thank you for being you.
“I would be remiss in this crazy, unpredictable world we all love so much if I did not hold out the possibility that maybe our GOODBYE is really a [sic]…UNTIL NEXT TIME.
The letter ended with Miller expressing his love to all who supported him and then his official signature.
There’s been no official word from GH on Miller’s exit or if the role of Drew will be recast or not. Prior to joining GH, Miller played the part of Billy Abbott on The Young And The Restless. That role is now played by Jason Thompson (ex-Patrick, GH).
