Since his debut on All My Children over 20 years ago as Ryan Lavery, Cameron Mathison has amassed a legion of fans and also a reputation for being one of the industry’s nicest guys. Last month, he revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. And now, he has a health update he’s sharing.
Cameron Mathison: Health News
Mathison took to social media to let his followers know that he is “cancer-free.” He noted in a semi-shirtless Instagram photo that he spent half of his life “focused on the aesthetics of my body and about half of my career I spent shirtless…”
Doctors had to make incisions for the surgery to treat his cancer and now, Mathison says he proudly wears the resulting scars that have helped make him well. “I proudly bear the scars that made me cancer-free,” he added in his post, which can be seen below.
Mathison’s friends from the daytime world chimed in on his Instagram page with messages of support for the actor and family man. “SO happy for you Cam!!! This is beautiful-so is your spirit!! Congrats,” wrote Chrishell Stause (Jordan, Days of Our Lives.)
Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami, DAYS), Mathison’s leading lady in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries series Murder, She Baked, wrote: “You’re such an inspiration.”
Kym Douglas, who also appears on Home & Family and is the wife of Jerry Douglas (ex-John, The Young and the Restless) and is also a cancer survivor, posted: “Powerful. Your body (and scars) have a deeper, more meaningful beauty now & I learned this as well. YOU ARE CANCER FREE Cameron… and NOTHING is more beautiful than that!”
Other daytime folks who posted messages of support include Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea, YR), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, YR), and Valerie Wildman (ex-Fay, DAYS).
