The Talk invited Riverdale star Mark Consuelos onto the show to share some dish on upcoming projects. Talk host Sheryl Underwood, known for being a soap opera devotee, queried the former All My Children hunk about the show’s primetime revival titled Pine Valley.
“All My Children was such a big part of my life and my wife’s [Kelly Ripa] life,” Consuelos said on the CBS talk show. “And you know, I met my wife there obviously, had kids, became a young man on that show.”
As previously reported, Consuelos and Ripa are tied to Pine Valley, a primetime series that’s named after AMC’s locale, and will incorporate existing characters.
“We’re so excited,” Consuelos adds. “Of all the things that we’ve ever announced that we’re going to do, this is one of the biggest responses we’ve got from our fans. They’re so excited. It’s a big piece of TV that’s been missing for such a long time. And we’re going to bring it back.”
“Will they still stay in Pine Valley?” asked Underwood. “Is it going to be the Cortlandts and the Warners? Is it going to be everybody?”
An hour-long weekly series might find bringing back and/or bringing on everybody who’d ever been on AMC problematic, however, Consuelos is hoping fans won’t be disappointed. “I know they’re going to bring back some fan favorites, and it will take place in Pine Valley, and I’m really, really excited,” the actor adds.
Created by Agnes Nixon, AMC debuted on January 5, 1970. It aired for the last time 41 years later on September 23, 2011. Later, Prospect Park acquired rights to the characters. New episodes appeared for four months on The Online Network in 2013. Later, rights to the AMC characters reverted back to ABC.
About two years ago, ABC then-entertainment president Karey Burke hinted that options were being kept open about utilizing AMC and One Life to Live. “There might be some conversation about that,” Burke said. “There might be.” While many hoped that might mean the daily serials would return, a nighttime series featuring characters from the show could be the next best thing!
Soap Hub will bring readers details of Pine Valley’s development as they become available. The Talk airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
