ABC has a new senior vice president and head of its daytime department… and this news directly affects General Hospital.
The network announced that William Burton is now the new head of ABC Daytime, according to Deadline. He will also work in other divisions but it’s that one that will affect General Hospital fans the most.
After all, it’s the head of daytime who can have a major say in the show’s future story, casting choices, writers, and producers.
How will someone who doesn’t have that history treat the only soap left on the network? He was previously the general manager and president of KGO, the ABC-owned TV station in the Bay Area.
‘[Burton] had been overseeing the business operations of ABC Daytime as SVP Daytime following the departure earlier this year of ABC Daytime head Rebecca Campbell, who was named President of Europe, Middle East & Africa for The Walt Disney Co.,” according to Deadline.
While he handles the business part, creative aspects are handled by another ABC exec, Vicki Dummer.
Burton’s role is simply being formalized, while also being expanded to include overseeing the creation of a new daytime talk show with Tamron Hall currently in development to debut in 2019.
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
