A Dante Recast? Emme Rylan Tells You What SHE Wants

Since Dominic Zamprogna’s exit as Lulu’s husband Dante on General Hospital (GH), Emme Rylan has been deluged with questions about it.

What are her thoughts on his departure? How would she like Lulu to move on? And, above all, would she like to see the role recast?

It’s Complicated
“It’s a little bit of a complicated answer, because I love Dominic,” says Rylan. “We’ve become really good friends. We’d spend our lunch hours talking about life, our kids, everything… I knew he wanted to [leave the show] for a while, and I fully support him taking a risk.

“On his last day I was so proud of him,” continues Rylan. “He walked out [of the studio] with his head up, fearlessly going toward the thing he wanted to do. On the other hand, I don’t want to be without Dante. So that’s been sad for me. But I think my feelings of happiness for Dominic kind of trump that.”

While Rylan is all for Lulu moving on, there are two things she’s opposed to at the moment. Tops on the list, a Dante recast.

“Fans will ask me, ‘Do you want him to be recast? Do you want him to be recast?’” recounts Rylan, noting that it’s “too soon. He just left. I can’t even wrap my brain around thinking of anybody [else playing the part]. Not yet.”

Storyline Lull
Not to mention the fact that the Dante and Lulu storyline had been seriously lacking in recent years.

“Dominic and I, and I know he’s said it before, have been told many times that we were playing the happy couple on the show. We were representing the happy family,” notes Rylan. “Therefore, it was hard to write story for us.

“So when people ask me if I want [Dante] to be immediately recast, I think, No,” asserts Rylan. “Because if they couldn’t write for us as a happy couple, then don’t bring me a Dante and have me be in a happy couple again.”

Hold the Romance
Rylan also doesn’t want to see Lulu embark on a new romance.

“From Lulu’s perspective, Dante’s coming back,” says Rylan. “She misses him, but he’s coming back… So I don’t want [the writers] to jump Lulu into something romantic. I don’t want romantic. Otherwise, I would love Lulu to raise hell in any other way possible.”

That is, until Dante, and if Rylan has her way, Zamprogna eventually returns to the role. “[The show] really left Dante’s exit open ended,” notes Rylan.

“So I almost feel like it could be Dom who comes back. [The show] could wait; like maybe have him off for a year and then bring [Dom] back recurring. These are my hopes. I don’t know at all what’s going to happen.”
