A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: The Irony of All Ironies

General Hospital Weekly Review March 1-5
 Comments

At General Hospital week, everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Port Charles week that was.

General Hospital: A Week In Review for March 1-5

This. Week. Was. EVERYTHING! Peter (Wes Ramsey) finally got his comeuppance, Anna (Finola Hughes) finally started acting like her old self, and Liesl (Kathleen Gati) got to crash yet another function – she’s so good at that!

The one and only letdown of the week was Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) refusal to face the facts. We understand the whole stand by your man concept, but this is just ridiculous. In fact, it’s insulting to the character of Maxie.

But Maxie’s eventual acceptance of the truth wasn’t the only tantalizing thread that the soap left dangling. There’s Franco’s (Roger Howarth) addition to the mix – which was nothing short of brilliant.

And then there’s the little matter of Anna and Finn’s (Michael Easton) suddenly derailed coupling. The irony of ironies, he’s mad at her for keeping schtum about Peter’s maternity when he’s yet to confide in her that he ran a DNA test that will prove whether or not Chase (Josh Swickard) is his son.

The recent turn of events could drive them completely apart…or it could actually bond them. Perhaps after Finn lets his hurt dissipate, he’ll actually understand Anna’s actions. And even though he’s also nursing an emotional wound resulting from Anna confiding her troubles in Valentin, he could also be able to forgive her that. Isn’t he in a similar situation with Jackie (Kim Delaney)?

Further GH Musings

* Boy, Nina (Cynthia Watros) had it made and she didn’t even know it. Michael (Chad Duell) and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) went out of their way to include her in Wiley’s life – even after Carly (Laura Wright) ranted and raved about the prospect.

And how does Nina repay them? By muddling the waters where Wiley’s maternity was concerned – hmmm…this show really seems to have a plethora of mommy issues!

So, even though she completed her objective – tell Wiley Nelle (Chloe Lanier) was his actual mother, Nina has now been forcibly removed from her grandson’s presence.  she’s laid waste to the cordial relationship she’s built with Willow, and, the horror of horrors, she’s making us admit that…Carly was right!

* Though we (rightfully) named Kathleen Gati our Performer of the Week, we’re still going to say that Violet (Jophielle Love) actually stole the whole show with her adorably uttered, “Uh oh,” when Liesl made her grand entrance and objected to Maxie and Peter’s wedding.

* Was anyone else surprised at the way in which Sam (Kelly Monaco) reacted to the news that Peter had arranged Drew’s murder? She barely shed a tear when the news of her exes death became public knowledge, and now she’s all, GRRRR let me flip and chair and scratch out that man’s eyes? General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
