5 Reasons We Love General Hospital’s Franco

Franco’s killed, kidnapped, and committed a number of other nefarious crimes on General Hospital (GH).

But since a brain tumor diagnosis got him off the hook – and kept him from going to prison, Franco (Roger Howarth) has undergone an unlikely redemption. In the process, he’s emerged as an offbeat and captivating leading man. Here are five reasons we love Franco.

Forever Friz
Elizabeth absolutely loathed Franco for everything he’d done to Jason (Billy Miller) and Sam (Kelly Monaco), and for months she was icy cold to him.

But Franco melted Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) harsh exterior by being there for her in her hour of need, time after time. She opened her heart to him and landed a man that is totally devoted to her, giving GH fans a fabulous new supercouple to root for: Franco and Liz’s “Friz.”

Saving Jake
Upon returning home from Helena’s captivity, Jake (Hudson West) was a seriously troubled child. He began art therapy with Franco and soon began opening up to him in a way he hadn’t with others.

A special trust developed between the twosome. With Franco’s help, Jake began revealing secrets from those missing years and dealing with them, and finally healed mentally.

Father Figure
Kiki (Hayley Erin) developed a bond with Franco after learning he was her “father.” When the truth came out that he wasn’t, she was crushed. But Franco never walked away and has continued to play an important role in her life.

In fact, when Kiki’s real father, Silas, was murdered, Franco stepped up, moved in with her, and became her substitute dad. He’s been there for her ever since.

Paging Dr. Obrecht
Dr. Obrecht’s (Kathleen Gati) friends are few and far between. Heck, let’s face it. She barely has any. Well, except for Franco.  She took an instant liking to the dubious Franco, perhaps because they’re two of a kind – cryptic, questionable, and always suspect.

Their scenes together are always entertaining and, oft times, heartfelt. They relate to one another in a way they can’t with anyone else.

Franco vs. Jason
There’s no love lost between Franco and Jason, and that’s not apt to change – ever. And that’s absolutely perfect. The duo’s adversarial relationship is one of General Hospital’s best, substantiated by lots of meaty backstory.

Meanwhile, the two men have to coexist, since Franco’s involved with Jason’s ex, Elizabeth, which continues to keep thing interesting.
