There was more glitz and glamour at the 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards than during last year’s ceremony, but the COVID pandemic’s presence still affected things — but that didn’t stop the casts and crew from all the daytime soaps — Days of our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless — from celebrating the biggest day of the year — at night. Get your complete list of winners in the biggest awards below.

The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards: A Complete List of Winners

Outstanding Drama Series
General Hospital

Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Drama Series
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood as Steffy Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful
“It’s a thrilling, ‘pinch me’ moment especially as it was announced on Entertainment Tonight,” Wood tells Soap Hub. “I just got back from my maternity leave a few weeks ago and now I’m so honored to have received this news.” The other contenders in this category include The Young and the Restless’ Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea) and a trio of General Hospital actresses — Genie Francis (Laura), Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis), and Finola Hughes (Anna/ex-Alex).

Wood and the B&B team not only took on a challenging opioid story, but they did so upon returning to production last summer after a shutdown due to COVID-19. Wood and her B&B colleagues explored this socially relevant tale while simultaneously figuring how to produce the show using safety protocols.

“This is a story that we needed to tell in 2020,” the actress adds, noting the rise in opioid fatalities. “We all know someone who suffers from some kind of addiction. I was inundated with so many messages on social media.”

Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series
Maurice Benard as Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital

Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Marla Adams as Dina Mergeron on The Young and the Restless

Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Max Gail as Mike Corbin on General Hospital
Gail told Soap Hub before the awards, “Just being in that crowd is nice. It’s nice to win. It was a great experience for me. The story was grounded in a very deep reality that touches many people’s lives. It was interesting [shooting during COVID]. It’s a wonderful circle of supportive people at GH. It is like a family. People have been working there for decades together.” He added, “This year I felt there was such wonderful stuff. The wonderful Nneka Garland [coordinating producer] put the reel together. I saw the reel. I thought she did a wonderful job.”

Outstanding Performance by a Younger Performer in a Drama Series
Victoria Konefal as Ciara Brady on Days of our Lives

Outstanding Performance by a Guest Performer in a Drama Series
Cady McClain as Jennifer Horton-Devereaux on Days of our Lives
Cady told Soap Hub prior to the ceremony, “I always love to work. I love DAYS. It’s a great show. I love working in Daytime. It’s a fun medium. Anything is possible. I loved working with Matthew. He was so kind and super helpful; he’s a really lovely human being. I felt blessed to have had him as a scene partner.” McClain described the scenes she submitted, “My reel has the scenes where there’s a big party celebrating Jack [Matthew Ashford] and Jennifer’s relationship and her no longer being in a coma. Then, it’s revealed that Jack slept with Kate [Lauren Koslow] while Jennifer was in her coma. There’s the reveal, and then a fight in which Jennifer lays into Jack. I believe I used two back-to-back episodes.”

Also at that same ceremony, Outstanding Achievement by an Individual in a Daytime Drama was awarded to Mary Fickett from All My Children.

The Bold and the Beautiful made its debut in 1987 and introduced glitz and glamour to daytime soap operas. It has outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households.
