He’s one of Port Charles’s most eligible bachelors, but there’s a catch: technically, Dr. Griffin Munro is still a priest.
Although Griffin (Matt Cohen) has mainly been working at General Hospital since arriving in town, he still remains a member of the clergy. And he conveniently uses his vow to God as a shield to keep him from moving forward in his personal life.
Recently, Griffin met with Father Cory and admitted he wasn’t sure he wanted to remain a priest. He touched upon his friendship with Ava (Maura West). Father Cory suggested Griffin take some time to reflect and make a decision.
Here are four reasons why Griffin needs to leave the priesthood, aside from the fact that ooops, he just strayed again with Ava.
It’s Time
Enough already! After nearly two years on the soap — Cohen joined GH in February 2016 — it’s simply time that Griffin move on.
He’s obviously quite content curing the ill at the hospital and has no real yearning to return to the priesthood. Hence, he should take the necessary steps, make a clean break, and officially leave that life behind.
What’s the Story?
Because of that priestly collar — figuratively, not literally – it’s been hard to find major story for Griffin. There are lines, obviously, that he can’t cross as a man of the cloth. It’s kept the character on the fringe of plots instead of at the center of them.
If he leaves the church, Griffin will finally be able to embrace leading man status, where a plethora of story opportunities will await him.
A Good Man Is Hard to Find
In a town full of mobsters and madmen – hello Sonny (Maurice Benard), Julian (William DeVry), and Valentine (James Patrick Stuart) — the pickings of quality men are slim for the eligible ladies of PC.
Having a genuine good guy like Griffin available would make him a prize catch, and he’s sure to have many suitors aside from Ava. Single ladies like Valerie (Brytni Sarpy), Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), and even Kiki (Hayley Erin) are likely to sit up and take notice and suddenly see him in a whole new light.
Finally… Closure
Griffin’s been caught in the middle of two worlds for years. It’s left him, essentially, in limbo, which is not a healthy place. He’s a grown man and, as such, he finally needs to make a choice for the sake of his psychological well-being and sanity. Once he does, he’ll finally be able to live a full life.
