NBC found a hit last season in the musical dramedy, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, and its strong cast led by Jane Levy, Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, and Mary Steenburgen is about to get even bigger in Season 2.
According to TV Line, the show has promoted four recurring characters to series regulars: Andrew Leeds and Alice Lee, who play Zoey’s older brother David and sister-in-law Emily, respectively; and Michael Thomas Grant and Kapil Talwalkar, who play Zoey’s SPRQ Point colleagues Leif and Tobin.
Fans of the show are well familiar with the quartet of characters, as all four were an important part of Zoey’s story in Season 1. The fact that all are outstanding singers only makes the news better.
In Season 2, the character of David will be dealing with the loss of his father while becoming a dad himself for the first time. Meanwhile, Emily will have to balance her joy of motherhood with the grief of her family.
Leif and Tobin will continue to add humor at the workplace, as the best buds were always a bright spot last season. Expect lots of great tunes and dancing moves from Grant and Talwalkar.
Robert Ulrich, casting director for the show, told this reporter about how Grant first came to be cast on the show, even though his IMDB resume was basically zilch.
“I was working on The Glee Project, and he was someone who wasn’t on but had made it pretty far in the process—down to the final 75 or so out of 50,000 hopefuls,” Ulrich said. “He made a strong impression and I have seen him perform in some musicals in Los Angeles over the years, and when I was looking at this part, I thought of him and brought him in. He was perfect.”
You can look for Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist to return for Season 2 in 2021 on NBC and PeacockTV. In the meantime, you can catch up with Season 1 on NBC.com and the NBC app.
