Leslie Jordan won an Emmy for his scene-stealing portrayal of Beverly Leslie, Karen Walker’s nemesis/best friend on Will & Grace. If awards are given out for Instagram videos, we suspect that he’d be making room on his mantel once again.
The actor has been posting videos while self-quarantining that are earning rave reviews. In his latest, Jordan recounted guest-starring on a 1993 sitcom that starred two very popular stars.
“Many years ago, I did a sitcom called It Had to Be You,” Jordan shared. “It starred the Academy Award-winning actress Miss Faye Dunaway [Network], oh, Lord! It also starred Robert Urich [S.W.A.T.; Vegas], who died soon thereafter. But Miss Dunaway liked me. We got along. She said to me one day, ‘You can really tell stories. You remind me of my friend Tennessee Williams.'”
Needless to say, Jordan was thrilled to be compared to the playwright who authored A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. “I said, ‘Oh, Miss Dunaway! What an honor!”
Jordan added that Dunaway told him that the only person she ever let call her “Dorothy Faye” — her real name — was Williams. He then asked if he, too, could call her “Dorothy Faye.”
“She said…’No’…” Jordan sighed. “She bat-[expletive] crazy!”
Despite the series’ star wattage, it appears that Jordan’s guest spot may never have aired. It Had to Be You only ran for six episodes.
Next, Jordan’s set to return to series television in the sitcom Call Me Kat, a Fox sitcom that according to the Hollywood Reporter has received a network commitment. The premise of the show features Mayim Bialik as Kat, a 39-year-old woman who uses her life savings to open a “cat café” in Louisville, Kentucky.
Jordan will play Phil, who works for Kat and serves as the cafe’s pastry baker. Kat will try to help Phil get on with his life after he splits from a long-term partner.
