Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez broke the internet over the weekend when they revealed they had gotten engaged while on vacation at Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas.
Though the couple has been inseparable for the past two years and seem to be more in love than ever, it sounds like the engagement was actually a surprise for Lopez.
According to Us Weekly, the mother of two “didn’t know” about the proposal prior to it happening.
And, while they had discussed the possibility of getting married down the road, it wasn’t necessarily something they were looking to jump into.
“They’ve talked about marriage and have always planned to spend the rest of their lives together, but they were so happy with exactly how things were, they weren’t sure if they wanted to go down that road,” the source explained.
“It’s almost like they didn’t want to jinx it.”
Lopez has been married three times before, most recently to Marc Anthony, and Rodriguez was previously married to Cynthia Scurtis.
“Marriage is something that became important to both of them and their kids. They know they want to make this commitment to forever together,” the source explained.
The couple has also been able to blend their family. Lopez has 11-year-old twins Max and Emme with Anthony, while Rodriguez has 10-year-old Ella and 14-year-old Natasha with Scurits.
Rodriguez was the first person to break the engagement news on Instagram with a post of her giant ring.
“She said yes,” he captioned the stunning photo.
