The Voice popped up on NBC as scheduled for the third night of blind auditions on Oct. 2 with Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus, and Jennifer Hudson snagging their share of extreme talent. As is his style, Adam Levine continued to hold back before building his entire dream team for season 13.
Meanwhile, Blake is charging full steam ahead on that matter, winning over a couple of Monday’s top singers. Adam Cunningham is one of them, a 38-year-old Nashville session singer and dad who calls himself “a dumb kid from Iowa.”
The veteran judge was first to turn his big red chair, followed by Jennifer (who apparently wasn’t really in the running in this case) after the bearded crooner gave his all while covering The Allman Brothers’ Midnight Rider.
Shelton’s team also gained the talented Noah Mac who performed Kaleo’s Way Down We Go. The 17-year-old does not look like he sounds, a great tease for these blind auditions. In fact, he sounds like an old soul as he strongly and smoothly reaches notes on both ends of the scale.
This time, Hudson was first to turn her chair and Shelton was second. Cyrus called the teen “hot” before the sensitive singer picked Blake as his mentor.
Don’t worry, though. JHud had her moment on Monday’s blind auditions when the enthusiastic The Voice arbiter won over Devon Fleming who saw all four judges turn their chairs.
After Fleming crooned a bluesy Me and Mrs Jones, the Oscar winner bounced up on the stage to offer an impromptu duet of I Will Always Love You with the Baltimore native. Devon Picked Jennifer. Natch. Talk about a powerhouse duo.
And finally, at the end of the night, 16-year-old Moriah Formica won the heart of mentor Miley Cyrus after crooning Ann and Nancy Wilson’s Crazy For You to a standing ovation and four chair turns.
The Latham, New York teen, who has been in voice training for five years, honored her dad on stage by saying he has been her most treasured influence.
The Voice airs on NBC Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m., ET.
