The Have and the Have Nots, an OWN original serial created by Tyler Perry, is set to air its series finale at the conclusion of Season 8. That final run of episodes is scheduled to commence in May 20121.
No Season 9 For The Have and the Have Nots
As Deadline reported, Oprah Winfrey noted in a statement, “The Haves and the Have Nots was the first scripted drama we aired on OWN, and to say it took off from the first day it hit the air is an understatement. It’s all due to one man’s creativity and very vivid imagination, a man I refer to as my ‘big little brother,’ Tyler Perry.
“I thank Tyler, the incredible cast, the tireless crew and every single viewer who watched with bated breath each week and tweeted along with us these past eight years. I will be watching alongside you all during this final season.”
The Haves and the Have Nots, a story concerning the lives of the uber-rich (and trouble-plagued) Cryer and Harrington families as well as their blue-collar domestic staff, was loosely based on Perry’s same-titled 2011 play. It has aired on OWN since May 28, 2013.
OWN president Tina Perry (no relation to Tyler), praised the outgoing program and promised that it would “forever hold its place in history as the network’s first ever scripted drama for which we are so proud. We can’t wait for fans to see the juicy storylines Tyler has planned for the final episodes.”
Though no story details were forthcoming, it’s safe to say that viewers will be in for a treat. Perhaps perennial scheme queen Veronica Harrington, who survived her son’s attempted matricide, a car accident, and near-drowning at her ex-husband’s hands, will finally get her well-deserved comeuppance.
The Haves and the Have Nots is produced for OWN by Tyler Perry Studios. Perry, the creator, has served as the hit show’s sole scripter.
