Singer Eddie Money, who is probably best known for songs such as Two Tickets to Paradise, Take Me Home Tonight, and Baby Hold On, died Friday, September 13 at the age of 70.

“The Money Family regrets to announce that Eddie passed away peacefully early this morning. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music,” the family said in a statement obtained by Variety.

The popular ‘70s and ‘80s singer was suffering from Stage 4 esophageal cancer, something he actually revealed during the second season of his reality show, Real Money. The show, which began airing in April 2018, showed Money’s home life, as well as his ongoing health struggles.

“What I don’t want to do is I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody. It’s not honest. I want to be honest with everybody,” Money said on the show.

“I want people to know that cancer [treatment] has come a long way and not everybody dies from cancer like they did in the Fifties and Sixties. Am I going to live a long time? Who knows? It’s in God’s hands.”

Not only was the prolific songwriter suffering from cancer, but he also had a minor heart valve procedure back in May and was also diagnosed with pneumonia in July.

Money, who was born in Brooklyn, moved to California in the late ‘60s in order to pursue his dream of becoming a rockstar. He was then signed to Columbia Records in 1976 and released his self-titled debut album, which included his hit Two Tickets to Paradise. He later spoofed the song in a popular TV commercial for the insurance company, GEICO.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie, as well as his five children — Zachary, Jessica, Joseph Julian, and Desmond. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time.
