Top Five Most Shocking Deaths on Game of Thrones

 Comments

Fans of Game of Thrones now know that no death is ever shocking, but there have been a few deaths that have totally come out of left field. While some of these deaths were a long time coming, the timing of the deaths is what left fans freaking out.

Here are the top five most shocking GoT deaths. See if our list matches up with the deaths you found to be the craziest!

Ned Stark (Sean Bean)
Fans were left completely shocked when Ned was killed before the end of the first season. Though no death seems shocking now that we’re eight seasons in, it was a huge deal to kill off the main character so quickly.

Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson)
Though everyone wanted Joffrey to die the second he appeared onscreen, his death did come out of nowhere. He was poisoned by Olenna Tyrell at his own wedding to her granddaughter Margaery, which was really an amazing moment.

Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley)
Let’s be honest, Robb Stark’s death during the Red Wedding wasn’t that shocking (he backed out of his deal, for crying out loud!), but his mother’s death was a surprise. At least she got to have one moment of revenge before she bit the dust for good.

The Sept (and then Tommen’s Suicide)
Margaery, Loras, and their father’s deaths, along with everyone else inside the Sept, was all thanks to Cersei, whose plan to blow them up went off without a hitch. While her ultimate revenge was probably a long time coming, it was sad to see the Tyrells get wiped out for good. Not to mention, it lead to her own son, Tommen’s suicide!

Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony)
Renly was introduced and then swiftly killed — all thanks to the smoke monster that was birthed by the Red Woman. It felt like we’d have more time with his character since he was tied to so many others and trying to win the Iron Throne, so it was a little shocking to see him killed so quickly!
