Finally, Empire is back, baby! The Season 6 premiere episode aired Tuesday and it was full of drama. We opened to a graphic saying it’s nine months from now as Lucious gets shot multiple times. When it returns from the opening, a new graphic says its present day. Lucious Lyon is living his life off the grid after running away last year, while Cookie Lyon is just trying to move on with her life.
Meanwhile, Andre (Trai Byers) has big plans for the Empire company and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) wants in. Scroll down to relive the top five OMG moments from the episode!
5. Lucious Is Dating Who?!
Lucious (Terrence Howard) ran away at the end of last season, so it’s no surprise that nobody in his family seems to know where he is. We then see Lucious in a bar – with dreads, might we add — listening to a girl singing. This girl turns out to be the new lady in his life, and she’s also the daughter of Damon Cross (Wood Harris), the man determined to bring Lucious down. This is going to get interesting!
4. Hakeem Hijacks Andre’s Plans
Andre is making a movie based on his father’s life and has decided to cast Charlie Dupre to play Lucious Lyon, but Hakeem has other plans. In fact, Hakeem publicly reveals at an Empire event that he’ll be the one to play his father in the movie, not Charlie. Andre goes along with Hakeem’s antics, but who knows if he’ll actually follow through with his idea.
3. We Know Where Jamal Is
Jussie Smollett is no longer a part of the Empire family, so it was crucial the show address his absence in the premiere episode. While he definitely wasn’t the focal point, he was mentioned during a scene between Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Becky (Gabourey Sidibe).
