The original photo featuring the inaugural cast of Beverly Hills, 90210 is prominently displayed in the hallway at FOX Studios. Actress-turned-executive Christine Elise wants to recreate that iconic image in the newest episode of BH90210 – entitled The Photo Shoot.
But to fulfill her boss’s request, show producer Tori Spelling is going to have to pull up her big-girl panties and make some tough decisions – and perhaps do just a wee bit of groveling.
Total Knock-out
The actors are initially enthused with the outlines they receive from the show’s new head writer, Jack Carlisle – well all except Ian, who stumbles into the reading hungover following a night of binge-drinking.
However, things take a turn when Jason realizes that Carlisle is the mystery man that impregnated his wife. He makes an effort to attack his love rival but it’s Ian who winds up punching Carlisle in the face. In Ian’s defense, “Someone had to do something about that guy’s dialogue!”
Good Talk
Tori can see that her fellow cast members are in need of some serious talk therapy and after asking around she finds that no one comes more highly recommended than Carol Potter — AKA the former Mrs. Walsh from 90210 original flavor. But it turns out that going to a former co-star for counseling is actually a bad idea.
Although Carol is sure that knowing the group on an intimate level can be very beneficial, the first session descends into chaos when Jennie and Jason’s Las Vegas hookup is exposed. Ever the optimist, Carol is thrilled with the group’s, “little progress.”
Keys to the Kingdom
Zach fulfills his goal of working with his idol – or is it future victim – Brian Austin Green. Although he initially runs afoul of Brian’s wife Shay – who isn’t thrilled that the young man doesn’t recognize her superstar status – Zach eventually ingratiates himself when he tries to cover for her lapse in parenting. As a reward for his loyalty, Brian drops a set of house keys into Zach’s excited hands.
Exploration
Gabrielle is still struggling with her sexual identity and worries that she is a latent lesbian. She tries to talk with her husband but he isn’t receptive to her desire to work out her issues through the character of Andrea.
Fellow queer person Christine encourages Gabby to explore her options and suggests that she go to a gay bar or join a dating app – you know, for “research.” Gabby does download an app but is disappointed at not getting any matches – that is until Christine messages her and asks about getting a drink. Will Gabby start mixing business with pleasure?
Surprise Appearance
She managed to pluck up the courage to fire Carlisle, but Tori knows that there is only one thing she can do to truly ensure the success of the 90210 reboot: convince Shannen Doherty to come aboard. That’s easier said than done, and Tori finds herself climbing a literal mountain in the wilds of Peru hoping to find her former castmate.
After finally finding Shannen outside the hut of local spiritualist, Tori makes her a heartfelt pitch about the new project. To her great relief, Shannen agrees and the women fly back to Hollywood, arriving just in time to get into their positions for the all-important cast photo.
“It’s actually kind of nice to be back,” Shannen coos, right before the cameraman snaps the perfect shot. Did you absolutely love the episode? What were your OMG moments? Let us know in the comments section below.
