Grey’s Anatomy has had its fair share of tough breakups over the years, but some have hurt more than others. While there are couples that we’ve hoped would break up, there are others we were so sad to see fall apart.

5. Owen & Amelia
After losing Cristina, it really seemed as if Owen (Kevin McKidd) found his happily ever after with Amelia (Caterina Scorsone). Though their relationship faced a lot of ups and downs, they really loved each other and wanted what was best for one another. Their breakup was bound to happen when it did, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t emotional.

4. Cristina & Burke
We’re still not over Burke (Isaiah Washington) leaving Cristina (Sandra Oh) at the altar back in Season 3. Cristina had given so much of herself to Burke, but it ultimately wasn’t enough. Cristina always seemed so strong, but her breakup from Burke was devastating.

3. Alex & Izzie
Alex (Justin Chambers) is happily married to Jo nowadays, but we’ll never forget his relationship with Izzie (Katherine Heigl). She was the only woman — until Jo — who truly understood him. Alex was open, vulnerable, and a new man around her. Not to mention, their wedding was beautiful and touching. We still can’t believe Izzie left Alex!

2. Jackson & April
Japril should’ve been the endgame! Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) started out as friends, but they always had great chemistry. After April left Matthew at the altar for Jackson, it seemed as if their relationship was going to work out. But, like all good things, it didn’t last forever. They experienced too much pain.

1. Callie & Arizona
Dear Shonda Rhimes, why did you decide to break up Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw)?! They were a match made in heaven and should’ve never split. They experienced so much and truly loved one another. From the hospital shooting to the devastating plane crash, they had survived so much. We’ll never get over this breakup.
