In the latest episode of BH90210 -titled The Long Wait – principal photography has wrapped on the pilot of the newest iteration of Beverly Hills, 90210 and now it’s time to play the waiting game and see if the series will score one of the coveted slots on FOX’s new fall lineup.
And while some of the actor’s handle the next few weeks with aplomb and tact (read Shannen and Gabrielle), other actors are in absolute hysterics (we’re looking at you, Tori).
Competition
Whoever said a little competition was good for the soul never had to choose between the preeminent 90s teen soap – 90210 – and its delicious successor The O.C. That’s right, bitch! Those Orange County residents might be coming back to a television screen near you.
And they’ve even convinced Misha Barton to reprise her role of Marissa Cooper – gruesome death scene be damned. But with only four available timeslots, there isn’t room for TWO nostalgic serials so the 90210 gang had better get busy promoting their new project.
Reactions
Despite the no-go from Christine, Tori managed to manipulate an easily swayed assistant to email the cast the notes gathered from test audiences. Turns out the pilot actual rated fairly well amongst viewers but the actors…that’s a different story.
They HATE Tori Spelling the person but love Donna Martin – especially when she’s paired opposite “improbably hot” Brian Austin Green. They DARED to refer to Jennie Garth as middle-aged and depressing, they find Ian Ziering’s character a “time capsule,” and they think Andrea’s struggle with her sexuality is “pretty funny.”
And above all, they are confused by the obvious sexual chemistry between siblings Brandon and Brenda Walsh (an actual criticism of the earlier series). Shannen made it out the most unscathed but the audience would like to see Brenda be, “more of a trouble maker.” But Shannen isn’t feeling it. “Brenda wasn’t a trouble maker. Kelly was! Kelly was a slut!”
Paternity Pickle
Turns out Zach isn’t Brian’s son after all (thanks for shattering your husband’s dream Shay!). But just as it appeared that the boy would have to settle for Brian being his surrogate dad, Jason Priestly began to remember that HE had relations with Zach’s mother.
Mama Drama
Ian and Anna continue their no-strings-attached relationship but he wants more than she’s willing to give. When the news arrives that 90210 is in (and The OC is out), the gang head to a lavish party held at FOX Studios and Ian hooks up with ole gal pal Denise Richards. When Anna arrives to join the festivities, the women need no introduction since Denise already knows, “my daughter!” Awkward!
Be Careful What You Wish For
Yes, the 90201 pilot will go to air in the new television season but there’s going to have to be some changes. MAJOR changes! The entire pilot is being re-shot (sorry Jason), a new writer is scripting it (bye Anna), the production is relocating to Canada (“now is not the time to get precious about zip codes,”) and the budget will only stretch to bring back six of the seven principal actors (“but that’s a conversation for a different day, right?”).
